Major General Mike Fortney read some snippets from the Declaration of Independence and spoke about the steps that were taken by its 56 signers which led to the establishment of “the greatest nation in human history.” He said the declaration’s 1,320 words – and the concept of self-rule and unalienable rights – shook the world and served as a model document for more than 50 countries in the United Nations.
