The Polk County 4-H shotgun team had seven members participate in the 4-H State Shotgun Games at the National Shooting Complex in San Antonio recently, competing with 4-H members from across the state in American trap, doubles trap, American skeet, doubles skeet, sporting clays and TPWD whiz bang.
The shotgun team brought home nine individual awards, three Lewis Class awards, two team awards and two overall awards.
Allie Evans participated in the junior ladies division. She placed third in trap doubles, third in American skeet, second in skeet doubles, second in sporting clays, second in whiz bank, third in three-man team American trap, second in three-man team American skeet, third in American overall and third in women’s overall. She said the state shoot was so fun this year, especially being the oldest in her division. She said she also enjoyed meeting new friends from all over the state.
Ace Evans participated in the junior division. He placed first in American trap - Lewis Class C, third in three-man American trap and second in three-man American skeet. He said he enjoys shooting with the team and always loves the National Shooting Complex.
Brantlee Garrison participated in the junior division. He placed first in sporting clays - Lewis Class C, third in three-man team American trap and second in three-man team American skeet. He said his favorite event was sporting clays and his favorite memory was getting his first shotgun awards and getting two medals with the junior hot shots team. He was also excited to shoot a 35/50 in whiz bang.
Levi Carter participated in the intermediate division and placed third in whiz bang - Lewis Class C. He said he had a ton of fun hanging out with the whole team throughout the week and spending time with his family and that his most memorable moment was shooting his personal best on American skeet.
Eddie Turk participated in the senior 1 division. He placed sixth in American trap, fifth in trap doubles, third in American skeet and fourth in whiz bang. He said he loved that Polk County had a larger team to compete with at state this year.
Also competing were Braycie Puckett in the intermediate ladies division and Tessa Jones in the senior 1 ladies division. Braycie said her first trip to the National Shooting Complex was a blast, her favorite event was American trap and her favorite memory was Allie and her pouring water on their heads during sporting clays. Tessa said she also loved shooting at the National Shooting Complex and having a team to compete with.
4-H State is the last big competition for the year. The new year starts Sept. 1. An informational meeting for prospective new members will be on Sept. 16 at 6 p.m. at the 4-H Meeting Room at 602 E. Church St. Enrollment will be available on www.4honline.com.
