It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert “Bob” Sterling Farmer IV, 89, who left this Earth on October 7, 2024. Robert was born on May 13, 1935, to the late Robert Sterling Farmer III and Audine Mae Pruitt Farmer in Texas. Bob graduated from Schreiner Institute in 1951 before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force where he proudly served our country. Following his service, he attended the University of Texas where he graduated in 1958 with a degree in physics and mathematics. He began his career working as the IT director for Orange County where he was the youngest department head at that time. He then went to work for Sperry Corporation, Univac Division and spent time as a Toshiba distributor before he designed and wrote his own software program for Farmers agents. Following semi-retirement, he began consulting and started Lore Marketing.
After retirement, Bob sold his home in Lake Oswego, Ore. and traveled the west coast in his motorhome which afforded him the opportunity to spend time with family and friends and travel which he loved. He thoroughly enjoyed golfing, racquetball, photography and watching UT football (Hook ‘em Horns). Despite battling (and beating) cancer three times, Bob never wavered in his strength and zest for life. He never forgot to remind his grandchildren that despite his age, he could still beat them at golf or racquetball and the memories of “horse bites an apple” will be forever cherished by his grandkids. Following his cancer diagnosis in 2000, Bob moved to Texas to live with John and Sheri Kelly. He moved to Livingston, Texas in 2015 and enjoyed “lake life.”
Bob is survived by his daughters, Shyrl Farmer Roberts and husband Paul of California, Sheri Farmer Kelly and husband John of Texas and Staci Farmer Polanski and husband Todd of Texas; grandchildren, Lance White, Tyler Allison, Taylor Nichols, Tera Kelly, Cassidy Allison and Brandon Smith; and his beloved great-grandson, Donald “DJ” James Nichols IV. He is also survived by his dear friend and confidant, Donald Nimz of Portland, Ore. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, E.L. and Olive Farmer, and many loving family members and friends whom he adored.
A special thank you to Dr. Randal S. Weber and Shawn Terry, PA with M.D. Anderson. Because of these amazing men, the family was able to have 24 more amazing years with Bob and we are forever thankful.
The family will be sharing some words and memories to remember the great life of Bob on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at 2 p.m. in Cedar Point. 432
