A traffic accident Thursday night involving a vehicle and a tanker truck carrying nitrous oxide on US 287 East near Darden Road resulted in the closure of US 287 East from FM 62 to establish an isolation zone for precautionary measures. Traffic traveling east was rerouted south onto FM 62 and onto FM 1745 into Tyler County.
A HAZMAT team arrived at the scene to further evaluate the situation due to the tanker truck carrying nitrous oxide. Residents in the area were encouraged to shelter in place until further notice.
By Friday morning, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and the Corrigan Police Department were reporting that the accident scene had been cleared, all roads were open, and it was no longer necessary to shelter in place.
