Administration at Goodrich ISD recently introduced a five-year strategic plan aimed at strengthening instruction, improving operations and creating a consistent student experience across the district.
The district established a strategic planning committee over the past school year to identify strengths and develop long-term goals through 2031. The committee included teachers, administrative staff and community stakeholders in a process guided by the Texas Strategic Planning, with technical support from the Region 6 Education Service Center.
A landscape analysis was conducted, examining instruction, operations and systems to identify areas of success and opportunities for growth.
District leaders said the plan is designed to establish and sustain the “Goodrich Way,” which is intended to ensure students experience the district’s envisioned student experience, while fulfilling the district vision of empowering all students to pursue excellence.
Goodrich ISD employs 49 staff members, including 22 classroom teachers, eight auxiliary staff members, eight educational aides, six professional support staff members and five administrators.
The district serves students on three campuses. Goodrich Elementary houses pre-K through fifth grade; Goodrich Middle School, grades six through eight; and Goodrich High School, grades nine through 12.
The strategic plan centers on four key areas for the envisioned student experience that include safety, high expectations, character and post-secondary preparedness.
Under the safety initiative, district leaders plan to provide supportive environments that prioritize emotional well-being, maintain physically safe campuses, and foster a sense of belonging that embraces diversity within the school community.
Also emphasized is maintaining high expectations by promoting active participation, critical thinking and collaboration while providing high-quality instruction designed to assist students to reach their highest potential.
In character development, Goodrich leaders aim to cultivate lifelong learners, develop exemplary citizenship and encourage disciplined behavior among both students and staff.
To improve post-secondary preparedness, the district plans to prioritize rigorous grade-level academics, assist students in developing personalized post-secondary plans and strengthen social skills needed for success after graduation.
The plan is aligned with the Effective District Framework, derived from the Texas Education Agency. It outlines six key operational areas including planning and performance management, talent development, integrated student supports, academic experience, instructional capacity building, and finance and operations.
District leaders also identified four strategic priorities requiring immediate attention. They want to develop a clear process for vetting curriculum and instructional resources; establish a defined process for building instructional capacity; create an onboarding process for new teachers; and improve teacher retention rates.
Beginning in the 2025-26 school year and continuing through 2031, Goodrich ISD plans to implement these strategic actions tied to district priorities and monitor progress with ongoing evaluation and reporting.
Goodrich Superintendent Daniel Barton will provide an annual State of the District report, summarizing implementation efforts and progress toward the goals.
