The Goodrich City Council gathered for their regular April meeting Thursday, as utility adjustments and grants were the topics of discussion.
Due to a high volume, the council implemented a $25 meter re-read fee, effective immediately. If there is an error by the city, the fee is dropped.
Goodrich Mayor Kelly Nelson said city contractors are called out far too often to reassess meters when there is a discrepancy in price.
Council also discussed the possibility of rate changes for different sized pipes on sewer taps.
There are a few multi-unit properties in Goodrich that are paying the same amount in sewer fees as a single-family home, something the council could address in the May regular meeting.
They have tabled a possible rate change for water and sewer the past few months, and hope to have a final decision soon when further discussion can take place.
Nelson reviewed the recent Easter egg hunt. Around 5,100 eggs were scooped up by the area’s children in minutes.
“There was a lot of children,” she said. “We had the cones from Halloween to separate (older from younger children).”
The mayor also updated council on possible grants and loans for the dredging needed at the city’s wastewater ponds.
“We’ve already applied for the grants the week before last,” Nelson said. “We have a good chance of getting it. We should know in a few weeks. We are not holding off on the loan, because we have to get a gigantic loan if we do not get the grant. We should know something soon if we get approved. It is only $250,000 that we would have to pay if we got the $5 million grant. We’ve done everything we need to do at this point.”
