Wildcat offense shines after rainout

After rainouts Friday night and Saturday, the Onalaska Wildcats were on the road against the Trinity Tigers Monday night, completing the season sweep of the Tigers with a 15-3 win in five innings.

Wyatt Reyes started things off in the first inning for Onalaska with a leadoff walk. He stole second base, then scored on a double to center field by Patrick Roth. 

In the bottom half of the inning, Trinity starting pitcher Canyen Hollis hit a double to right-center and scored on an error to tie the game, 1-1.

The Wildcats scored six runs In the top of the second inning. Jarrett Purkerson singled and Blaine De La Cerda reached base on error. Ty Phillips laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners into scoring position. Purkerson scored on an RBI-single from Conner Ruiz and De La Cerda scored on an error by the Tiger shortstop. Reyes drew a walk, followed by a Jake Gibson bunt to load the bases. Roth picked up two more RBIs on a Texas Leaguer to right. A sacrifice fly scored Gibson from third, and a double from Brayden Topkins scored Roth to put Onalaska up, 7-1. 

Trinity scored two runs in the bottom of the inning on a double to left-center. After the second inning, the score was 7-3. 

The Wildcats added four more runs in the third on four hits and three walks. The score was 11-3 through three innings.

Gibson led off the fifth inning with a standup triple off the wall in right field. He scored on an infield single from Thad Lilley. Lilley stole second base, then third base, and crossed home on a Topkins single. A sacrifice from De La Cerda scored Topkins, and a pinch-hit RBI by Jerry Pinkert gave the Wildcats a 12-run lead. 

Gibson was 3-for-4 with a triple, RBI, and scored three runs. Topkins went 2-for-3 with a double, walk, run scored, and three RBIs. Topkins was the starting pitcher for the Wildcats, getting the complete-game win, allowing only two earned runs on six hits, no walks, and struck out eight batters. 

The win gives Onalaska a 2–1 district record, who will begin the series against the Crockett Bulldogs Tuesday night.
