Trinity-Neches Livestock Show kicks off Monday

The 78th annual Trinity-Neches FFA and 4-H Livestock Show kicks off Monday at the Barney Wiggins Memorial Arena on S.H. 146 and will run through April 6 with a rodeo slated for 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
Gates will not open prior to 6 a.m. each morning and will close at 10 p.m. each night. Everyone must leave the fairgrounds by 10 p.m. nightly and there will be a security guard on the grounds from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly.
Ag mechanics, steers, heifers, swine, goats and lambs will move in from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday. Meat pen and breeding rabbits will check in at 8 a.m. and rabbit judging will begin at 10 a.m.
Steers, heifers, swine, goats and lambs will check in be weighed from 1-3 p.m. Monday. All steers, heifers, swine, goats and lambs must be on the grounds by 3 p.m. Production poultry and broilers will check in at 3:30 p.m. Monday and will be judged at 4 p.m.
Arts and crafts will check in from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday and there will be a swine show at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday followed by a breeding swine show.
There will be a lamb show at the swine barn at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, followed by a market goat show and breeding goat show at 10:30 a.m.
Food and cupcakes are to be checked in at 11 a.m. on Wednesday and judging will occur at noon. Arts and crafts judging will be at 2 p.m., as will a commercial heifer show. There will be a market steer show at 5 p.m. Exhibitors must tell Trinity-Neches Livestock Show officials which animals to place in the sale within 30 minutes of the conclusion of the steer show.
Youth barbecue teams will move in from 6-6:30 a.m. Thursday. Check-in for the no limits show is from 9-9:30 a.m. Thursday with the no limits show at 10 a.m.
Ag mechanics judging will occur at 10 a.m. Thursday. Exhibits will be open from 1-7 p.m. for the viewing of arts, crafts, photography, horticulture and food.
Check-in for the breeding heifer show is from 4:30-5 p.m. Thursday with the breeding heifer show at 6 p.m. Barbecue judging will also occur at 6 p.m. Thursday followed by the announcement of the results. There will also be a peewee show at 6 p.m. and a washer tournament at 6 p.m.
Check-in for the queens contest is at 7 a.m. Friday and the queens contest will start at 8 a.m. There will be a horse show at 9 a.m. Friday. Rodeo check-in is at 3 p.m. Friday. Mutton bustin’ check in for children six years old and under is at 5 p.m. Friday with the mutton bustin’ occurring at 6 p.m. The rodeo will begin at 6:30 p.m. Admission to the rodeo is $5. Events are open to students 18 and under and are $20 each. Events include steer riding, chute dogging, breakaway roping, pole bending, straightaway barrels and cloverleaf barrels. There is an 80% payout that pays three holes with no stock fees. The books close one hour before the rodeo starts. Overall high point and reserve will win buckles.
A mandatory sale participants meeting will be held in the swine barn at 7 a.m. on Saturday and the sale arena will be set up at 7:30 a.m. Arts, crafts, photography, horticulture and food projects will be released for pickup from 8-10 a.m. Saturday. A buyer’s lunch is slated for 11 a.m. Scholarships, awards, the queens contest and rodeo results will be announced at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. The Trinity-Neches Livestock Show sale will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday. Animal projects will be released 30 minutes after the sale ends.
