COLDSPRING — The San Jacinto County Commissioners Court again tabled approving a bid for a new communications system for the Sheriff’s Office to seek additional information.

Some of that information includes what type of system the county does need.

At the Wednesday court meeting, Emergency Management Coordinator Emmitt Eldridge said there was a lot of confusion about what the office actually needed, particularly to be able to use the TxWARN system, but ultimately there was no point in going with something that doesn’t meet those requirements.

Commissioner Donnie Marrs suggested getting someone in to do a needs analysis; County Judge Fritz Faulkner said his concern is whether the county could use DETCOG grant funds to purchase a system.

Also, since the bid being considered is for a refurbished system, Commissioner Laddie McAnnally questioned the need for used equipment; however, the bidder said that because of the cost of new equipment, many agencies are going with refurbished equipment.

Eldridge said that DETCOG suggested getting a representative from DPS Communications to perform a needs analysis, after which the matter was tabled.

In a related matter, the court approved canceling a tower license agreement with Crown Castle GT Co.

In other business, the court:

•proclaimed June as Men’s Health Month;

•approved the refund of $16,977.92 of unused grant funds;

•tabled a request to form a second Emergency Services District for more information;

•took no action on a request from the District Attorney’s Office for storage;

•approved SB22 expenditures for the District Attorney’s Office, including funds for another assistant DA, a victim assistance coordinator, and additional pay for existing attorneys, in the amount of $172,400;

•approved issuing credit cards to Mark Wills and Betty Davis;

•approved bond renewals for several county personnel;

•declared an evaporative cooler as salvage;

•approved a lot split for Jack and Paula Tullos in the Fostoria Tram Estates subdivision; and

•approved materials hauling bids.
