Shepherd, Coldspring face off in Cleveland Tournament

CLEVELAND — The Battle of San Jacinto County moved one county over, which Shepherd used to their advantage to claim a 12-1 win over Coldspring on Saturday in the Cleveland Tournament.

Wyatt Collins gets the win for the Pirates, throwing 4 strikeouts while giving up only 3 hits. The Trojans used 5 pitchers — Jacob Ash, Brayden Sherman, Ethan Hamilton, Wade Currie and David McCann — but could not find the right rhythm and gave up 7 hits to only 3 strikeouts.

Jacob Ash, Wade Currie and Jordan Ash each produced a hit for Coldspring, and Currie picked up the RBI. For Shepherd, Kyler Syracuse went 3-for-4 at the plate, and Reid Armstrong had 2 hits and drove in 3 runs.

Shepherd’s run to face Coldspring included a 7-3 loss to Cleveland on Thursday, and 7-1 win over Onalaska and a 16-11 win over Westbrook on Friday.

Coldspring went 1-3 at the tournament, falling 3-2 to Tarkington on Thursday, then beating Alief Elsik 5-4 but losing 11-2 to Harding on Friday.
