David Reed Jr. hosted the Valentine’s Ball at Jones Complex on Saturday. The hall was beautifully decorated for the occasion and was well attended. There was live entertainment, music and a comedy show with prizes. A delicious meal was served by Sevyn’s Gourmet Catering with DJ Been Live keeping things moving.
• SJC Women’s League held their February lunch on Thursday last. The guest speaker Holly talked about the role of CASA, (Court-Appointed Special Advocates) which give children going through the court system a volunteer advocate to help and support them. There is a short video online at the TexasCASA website which shows what a volunteer does.
The room was decorated for Valentines Day and the meal as always was delicious. The Women’s League meets every second Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at the Coldspring Community Center. Visitors are welcome; go to the Facebook page to know more.
• Saturday is going to be a busy day. Friends of Shepherd Library are holding a fundraiser Chili Cook-off at the park next to the Library. Come out to sample the different recipes for just $2. You can buy a bowl of your favorite chili for $5. There will be music and drinks with extras on sale if you wish.
You can also celebrate at Perla’s in Shepherd for the first anniversary of Grace and Willow Aesthetics. Champagne and appetizers will be waiting for the guests, all are welcome from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. This business is owned by Perla and Guendy, who are both certified in the different treatments offered including Botox and weight loss, facials and other services. •Here is some very useful news. Ryan Dampier of Shepherd is the founder and owner of Pirate Tech, a residential IT Company, serving the county and surrounding areas. Ryan, married with two young children, says his aim is to help our community with computer problems, software brought up to date and troubleshooting of every kind, can be done remotely or by a visit to the home if this is not possible.
Ryan has special equipment, an installation agent for the remote work and has 12 years’ IT experience in all computer problems. Pirate Tech wants to help our community. • Business of the Month was awarded to The Brewtique in Shepherd by the Shepherd Chamber of Commerce. This new business is a very interesting mixture of resale items and coffee shop. Everything from clothes to furniture, jewelry to decor can be found there. Owner LaNora Purvis is also the founder of Heaven’s Army, a safe place for women who need support and guidance. The emphasis is on Christian teaching and her center has helped many women change their lives for the better.
The Brewtique was awarded Business of the Month last year when they opened. This time it is for the introduction of a Farmer’s Market, held on the first Saturday every month, outside the premises. Wonderful items, from live chickens and eggs, Sourdough Bread and many other baked goods, leather work and craft items can be found there.
