FORT WORTH — A $16,000 scholarship was recently awarded to Rigby Bailes of Coldspring FFA by the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo’s Calf Scramble Scholarship Committee.

He is the son of Courtney and Ernest Bailes.

Bailes participated in the 2024 Fort Worth Stock Show Calf Scramble program making him eligible for the scholarship program. Forty-nine Texas 4-H and FFA members shared in $452,000 in Calf Scramble scholarship dollars.

Bailes’ scholarship was the result of the hard work and dedication necessary for participants to complete the rigorous Calf Scramble program. The moment they caught a calf during a 2024 Stock Show rodeo performance, their Calf Scramble journey began.

These youth utilized Stock Show funds toward the purchase of a calf that they cared for in 2024. His Brangus heifer project was sponsored by Pennebaker Horseshoeing of Weatherford. Caring for their heifer, submitting monthly reports, exhibiting at the 2025 Fort Worth Livestock Show and submitting a final essay were required for scholarship consideration. Meeting in March, the committee awarded Bailes his scholarship.

Sponsors for Bailes’ scholarship include 5G Land & Cattle Co. LP; Buffalo Equipment Rental; C&S Air Inc.; Chief Partners LP; HOLT CAT; Lisa and Milton Millman; James S. Morgan; The Neill Family; Oak Farms Dairy; Oliver Dyer’s Appliance; Pegasus Resources LLC; Spencer Perry; Rainbolt Family; Gary Ray; Caroline and Crawford Rodgers; Paul and Krista Schulman; Richard J. "Rick" and Candace Shearer; Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show; The David M.
