Board considers new attempt for bond issue

COLDSPRING — The Coldspring-Oakhurst CISD Board of Trustees still see a need for upgrading facilities in the district, so another bond issue could be on the agenda soon.

Superintendent Dr. Bryan Taulton said that at the Dec. 15 meeting, the board discussed a different approach to a bond issue.

The district proposed a $45 million bond issue in the November, which was voted down by district voters.

Taulton said the majority of the board had a discussion to retry the bonds in May, but doing it as an A and B plan. He said that they were considering splitting out Jones Elementary School work and other construction into one bond issue, and other upgrades and purchase items into another.

The board took no action; however, should the district decide to try again, the bond issue will need to be posted by Feb. 13. The matter will come up for approval at the January meeting.

In other business, board members:

  • accepted the annual audit, which was returned with an unmodified opinion;
  • approved a targeted improvement plan, which was part of the grant process;
  • approved the recommendations from the Library Board for new books; and
  • cast votes for Crystal Dominy and Collin Lilley for the San Jacinto County Appraisal District.

The next board meeting will be held Tuesday, Jan. 20, moved a day because of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
