Sarah’s Snack Shack was awarded the Business of the Month by Shepherd Chamber of Commerce last week.
Recently the owners, Pam, Alisha and Doyle, built an addition to the Food Truck, a sunroom where customers can sit and eat in comfort. Their food is recommended by their many clients and in particular, the cheeseburger is a big hit. Pam says their food is always made from scratch, never frozen.

• Shepherd Library holds Tiny Tots Tales every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Jenni, our new staff member, and Alli organized the session this week. Jenni brought a piglet to show the little ones, since the story this week was about a pig.
Before the story, volunteer mom Ayson led in a short dance to get the excess energy out. It is always a great program, only one of the many our libraries provide.
Shepherd will host Books & Banter on Wednesday from 3-4 p.m. Talk about your favorite authors or books or listen to others talk. The conversation flows.
Teen night, bingo, tiny art competition, and much more can be found at our local libraries. Go to the respective websites or Facebook pages.
• On Saturday morning the Emergency Management Committee held a meeting for interested community groups who volunteer to help when our county has a crisis. When we had floods a few months ago people had to seek shelter when they were flooded out of their homes.
This meeting, chaired by local resident Dendra Butler, introduced Chris Moody, who talked about the process of combining forces with our own local groups to plan the strategy for the future when the need arises.
Moody , who travels the country for FEMA, explained how money is shared out, how to connect with companies to rebuild homes, clean up the mess left by muddy rivers, help connect with supplies to feed and house temporarily and so on. He pointed out that FEMA comes for a limited time and local groups, churches, volunteer groups, Red Cross etc., must continue the work of getting the area back on its feet.
It was a very productive meeting. Emmitt Eldridge and Kris Eastham attended, and Emmitt mentioned he had just come from North Carolina where the storm tore apart a greats section of the area. There will be more on this subject as the groups start to formulate plans.
