COCISD Calls Bond Election for May

Posted

The Coldspring-Oakhurst CISD Board of Trustees has called a $50 million bond election scheduled for May 2.

This proposal represents more than two and a half years of thoughtful planning, research, and community input through the Facilities & Finance Assessment Committee for Trojan Students and the Bond Advisory Committee.

The proposed bond includes construction of a new Coldspring Intermediate School at the Jones Campus, serving grades 3 through 6. The new campus is designed to provide modern learning environments, enhanced safety features, and capacity to support the growing needs of COCISD students for years to come.

Other highlights include campus reconfiguration, student transitions and district-wide safety and facility improvements.

  • The current Intermediate campus would transition to become the new James Street Elementary, serving Pre-K through 2nd Grade, including four additional Pre-K classrooms
  • Lincoln Junior High would serve Grades 7–8
  • Enhanced exterior lighting and security fencing
  • Secure entrance upgrades at multiple campuses
  • Playground improvements
  • New classroom furniture
  • Door replacements across campuses
  • Restroom upgrades, interior painting, ceiling and flooring replacements, awnings, and updated signage
  • Renovations to the Lincoln Junior High front building
  • New theatrical curtains at multiple campuses
  • 6 New School buses
  • Athletic & Student Activity Enhancements
  • COHS gym improvements, including a new wood competition floor, auxiliary gym sport court flooring, upgraded lighting, bleachers, and facility enhancements
  • Lincoln Junior High gym improvements, including new flooring, upgraded lighting, bleachers, and locker room enhancements
  • New tennis courts and baseball/softball facility improvements, including sidewalks, storage areas, and student-athlete support spaces

Additional project details and voting information will be shared in the coming weeks. We encourage our community to stay informed and engaged throughout this process.

This bond proposal represents an opportunity to invest in safe, modern learning environments and support the future success of COCISD students.

A previous bond issue calling for $45 million, on the November 2025 ballot, was turned away by district voters.
