COLDSPRING — After two years of planning, research, and community input, the COCISD Board of Trustees has called for a $45 million bond election to support major campus improvements and better learning environments for all students.
Plans include campus changes and additions, district-wide facility upgrades and enhancements to athletics and other curriculum.
The measure will be placed on the Nov. 4 general election ballot.
The plans for campus changes include rebuilding the Jones campus to serve as Coldspring Intermediate School for grades 3 through 6, transforming the current intermediate school into a campus for Pre-K to second grade students, and changing Lincoln Junior High School to serve grades 7 to 8.
Facility upgrades, to be done throughout the district include enhanced lighting and fencing, door replacements, new paint, floors, ceilings and signage branding, playground improvements, restroom renovations, new classroom furniture and new theatrical curtains.
The bond also would be used for new gym floors, bleachers, lighting and branding at the high school; updated gym floor, lighting, bleachers and locker rooms for the junior high; two new tennis courts; new bleachers for baseball and softball; and dressing rooms, sidewalks and storage for student athletes.
This bond is about investing in an updated student environment and school safety, with input from the Facilities and Finance Assessment Committee for Trojan Students.
