COLDSPRING — The Coldspring-Oakhurst CISD Board of Trustees discussed the agenda for the 2025-2026 academic year that starts Aug. 12 and areas of improvement for the district on June 23.
Assistant Principal of Lincoln Junior High Brandi Keel took the floor during the public hearing to discuss the proposed Turnaround Plan that will be presented to the Texas Education Agency. Keel insists that this new plan will give Lincoln Junior High students the necessary tools to improve the school’s test scores and leadership development.
Keel stated that Lincoln Junior High received a rather unfortunate letter from the Texas Education Agency that expressed their disappointment in the school’s performance.
“This letter says that you have to get your act together and turn Lincoln Junior High around,” Keel said. “They sent us a letter, and by June 30, we have to submit the plan to TEA.”
However, Keel said that Lincoln Junior High “believes in the plan and thinks that it is amazing.”
During administrative reports, Superintendent Dr. Bryan Taulton provided updates on the areas of focus for next year.
“One area of focus for our district is going to continue to be math,” Taulton said.
He also said that strengthening parent-teacher communication will be a top priority for the upcoming school year.
In addition, Dr. Beth Klammer of the COCISD Curriculum & Instruction Department gave updates on summer school and teacher development. Klammer states that summer school is currently active and that COCISD educators have been attending academic academies.
