COLDSPRING — Despite a 4.82 percent increase in the proposed 2025-26 budget, the Coldspring-Oakhurst CISD Board of Trustees approved a small decrease in the tax rates for maintenance and operations and debt service.

At the Aug. 25 regular meeting, trustees approved an M&O budget of $20,529,315, a 4.82 percent increase over last year's number. The Child Nutrition budget expenditures will be $1,383,243.19, and the debt service budget is even at $1,507,737.

Chief Financial Officer Adam Jenke said the proposed tax rate for maintenance and operations is $0.6355 per $100 valuation, and the school debt service tax is $0.0729 per $100. However, the increase in property valuation will give the district additional revenues, impacting the average taxpayer by an additional $69.28 per year on the tax bill.

The trustees approved the tax rate for the coming fiscal year.

In other business:

  • The board approved the tax collection report, the monthly investment reports, and the monthly financial reports.
  • The board approved the district's professional development plan.
  • The board did NOT approve any possible action regarding the project delivery/contract award method that provides the best value for the district. The board motioned to discuss the topic on a later date.

The meeting concluded at 8:24 pm and entered into a closed session.

The next meeting will be on Sept. 22 at 6:30 p.m. in Coldspring-Oakhurst High School’s main foyer.
