Coldspring discusses ordinance for the City Permit Office

COLDSPRING —Mayor John Benestante provided the Coldspring City Council with updates on a potential ordinance for a permit office at the Feb. 2 regular meeting.

The ordinance for a City Permit Office will include site preparation demolition, and requirements for residential and commercial construction.

“The most important thing we need to put in our permit is it’s a piece of raw land, and it's clear… and what’s gonna happen to the drainage,” Benestante said.

Benestante said that companies will apply for a permit and do a study on the impact of the flood situation; there is a list of things that need to be done for commercial drawing and design, including structural and high-draw engineers.

In addition, Benestante stressed that the city will need some type of retention pond to slow runoffs, the details of which will be provided on the permit.

Moreover, Benestante briefed the board on the TDA Grant Project for Faulkner Road.

“We had $200,000 left over. We reapplied and we’re fixing to go out for a bid for that,” stated Benestante.

Benestante said that Faulkner is a short project that can be achieved in 30 to 60 days, depending on the gravity.
