Coldspring ends season with loss to district leader

On Tuesday night, the first-place Onalaska Wildcats took the floor with confidence and championship presence, showing exactly why they sit atop the district standings. Averaging nearly 90 points per game in district play, the Wildcats wasted little time living up to that reputation.

From the opening tip, Onalaska unleashed an offensive surge that quickly set the tone. The Wildcats connected on six three-point shots in the first quarter alone, exploding for 35 points while holding the Trojans to just 4. The early scoring barrage created a gap that proved too large to overcome.

With the UIL playoffs on the horizon, Onalaska Head Coach Nick Tyerman wisely began rotating his lineup, limiting minutes for several starters to keep his squad fresh and healthy. The adjustments allowed Coldspring to settle in and regroup. By halftime, the Trojans had found more rhythm offensively, though Onalaska still carried a commanding 51-21 lead into the break.

In the second half, with more Wildcats reserves seeing action, Coldspring continued to compete and made offensive strides. The Trojans put together strong scoring stretches in both the third and fourth quarters, narrowing the margin of play even as the overall deficit remained significant. By the end of the third quarter, the score stood at 76-41, and the Wildcats ultimately secured a 91-64 victory to finish district play with a perfect 10-0 record.

Despite the final score, Coldspring showed resilience in the final three quarters, continuing to compete and finding offensive momentum against one of the district’s most explosive teams.

Dacoryin Barns led the Trojans with an impressive 25-point performance, including a perfect 5-for-5 effort from the free-throw line. Tyler Stuckey added 10 points, while Porter and Joel Houston each contributed 6 points.
