Olivia Atkinson was recognized as the James Street Elementary Superintendent Student of the Month at the Feb. 23 meeting of the COCISD Board of Trustees.
The Coldspring-Oakhurst CISD Board of Trustees held their regular monthly meeting, and discussed these items:
Trustees decided against creating a separate period for prayer, as was part of a law passed by the 2025 Texas Legislature. Superintendent Dr. Bryan Taulton said that there are several Christian organizations in the district, and the current policy allows prayer if a student requests it. Additionally, the district has a moment of silence in the morning, so the trustees didn’t feel the need for a separate class.
Another requirement from the Texas Legislature was to have all teachers in core subjects, such as math and reading, be certified by the 2027-28. Taulton said the board approved a plan for the district to have all certifications in place.
The board approved incentive payments of $1,000 for educators selected as district teachers of the year.
The Trustees approved a host of annual contracts, including for vendors providing HVAC and security supplies and services; as 2026-27 instructional materials allotment and TEKS certification; and the annual contracts for district- and campus-level administrator.
