The Senior Center in Coldspring has made a decision on the future of the Center after have the budget slashed $2,500 a month.
From Oct. 1 they have chosen not to receive funding for the meals served in the dining hall. By doing this, the Center will be able to make their own decisions on how to handle their meals. They will be able to do to-go meals once again. Many of their clients miss those meals but this is not allowed if you receive any federal funding. During COVID it was allowed for a time.
The Center is growing daily and welcomes seniors and their caretakers, to join them in the many activities held there. Daily lunches are now $6; meals include a drink and dessert. The Center will still receive funding for their shut-ins homebound meals.
Fish Friday is third Friday of the month and will be sponsored this month by Sheriff Sam Houston.
• Coldspring Area Public Library announced a Save the Date for a spectacular fundraiser. Oct. 4 at the Coldspring Shelter there will be a murder mystery dinner, a Hollywood whodunit called “Best Laid Plans.”

• On Aug. 16 at 6 p.m. there will be a free concert in Shepherd at the Park by the Library. Todd Cotie, who has been impersonating Elvis for many years, will perform on the stage next to the Library. Bring a chair and come out to enjoy the evening. Sorry, no alcohol. Todd has several complete Elvis outfits and has performed many times but is new to our area, so come out to welcome him.
• Here is some exciting news from one of our recent Shepherd High School grads. Easton Wolfe, who is on the Friends of Shepherd Library board and was voted into the President of the Student Council here, will be studying at Drake University in Iowa.
Specializing in politics, Easton already has worked with political figures and was with some senators when he met President Trump recently in the White House. He was invited to run for the Des Moines City Council, a seat which he won and will be inaugurated in January. He is the youngest council member ever on their council; more news from him in the coming months.
Last Saturday, Easton was in Houston at the office of Lizzie Pannill Fletcher, who is running for re-election to U.S. Congress. He is on the right, Lizzie is of course in the middle. Our community loves to hear about our grads who go on to a new page in their lives. Please feel free to let me know if you want to share your news with the community.
