Coldspring updates ordinances

COLDSPRING — The Coldspring City Council worked on ordinances to align the requirements with state law and to limit stray animals.

Mayor John Benestante said that at the Nov. 4 meeting, an ordinance dealing with alcohol permits and loose animals were reviewed and updated, and the council also passed a resolution banning TikTok from city devices.

The new alcohol ordinance sets a 300-foot distance from schools based on measurements from property line to property line, and for churches, the distance is measured from door to door.

Benestante said that because of the change, two applications pending with the city will have to be denied, but there is a right to appeal.

The animal ordinance, while passed, will be discussed with incoming sheriff Sam Houston for a possible agreement with the county Animal Shelter.

In other business, the council:

•discussed an agreement handing Live Oak Street over to the county, which will now be reviewed by County Judge Fritz Faulkner;

•approved a resolution setting a 30-foot right of way on a portion of Street Lane that lies within the city limits;

•passed a resolution to approve required items to apply for Texas Department of Agriculture grant;

•Hired David Beard of Livingston to design a new community center;

•approved the 2025 city holiday schedule;

•approved a resolution to notify the state about closing highways around the Courthouse for Christmas on the Square;

•and discussed accepting property from schools where the Coldspring Volunteer Fire Department is located.
