SHEPHERD — In order to keep water problems from escalating, the Shepherd City Council gave its blessing for the purchase of an alarm system for the city’s water delivery system.
City Secretary Debra Hagler said that at the July 14 meeting, council members saw that the purchase of the system, which will be around $40,000, is within the Public Works budget, and directed the system to be purchased.
Hagler said the alarms will allow Public Works to be proactive when problems arise, as they did when lightning struck the city’s main well on a weekend, and workers did not realize until much later.
She said it will give an alert if the water falls below a certain level.
In a separate matter, the county discussed possible changes to its fees for renting the Community Center.
Hagler said there were issues with renters not leaving the facility clean, causing additional costs to the city.
No action was taken; however, Hagler said the council will discuss the issues with the cleaning crew as well as considering raising fees to cover the costs.
