Council focuses on roads, budget

POINT BLANK — The Point Blank City Council will move forward on street repairs.

Former Mayor Mark Wood said that a General Land Office block grant the city has had for 3 years now has a contract, and work will start on Oak Tree Drive improvements at a total cost $480,000. However, since the city only has just over $400,000 in funds, it will have to cover the difference, which Wood said that with change orders, it would leave the city paying $30,000 to $80,000.

The council also acknowledged several work orders for street repairs that will be sent to contractors and the county for work to begin.

Wood also said that he has gotten clearance from FEMA for $78,600 in repair projects, and work will start to repair damage from last year’s storms.

In a related matter, the council discussed next year’s budget. Wood said overall the budget will be around $901,000, and the city will spend $800,000 in the next fiscal year on streets if grants go as quickly as they hope.

In other business, council members:

  • discussed the completion of repairs to Sam Houston Loop;
  • approved changes in banking authority; and
  • discussed the council’s makeup, as it still is seeking a candidate to fill the mayor’s position.
