Council moves forward on water grant

SHEPHERD —The Shepherd City Council approved the standard stack of resolutions required for receiving grant funds at its Feb. 10 meeting.

City Secretary Debra Hagler said the grant from the Texas Department of Agriculture will be for $500,000, which will allow the city to build a water storage tank at Myrtie Well.

This is a separate grant from the $4.2 million in mitigation funds the city received for work on the city sewer system, which was to begin soon but was delayed by weather.

In other business, the council:

  • approved the 2022 and 2023 audits from Brooks Watson;
  • delayed action on a water line extension to seek more information;
  • delayed action on the disposition of abandoned homes;
  • took no action on reports of trash dumping on Shoemaker Road, but the police department will do extra patrols;
  • appointed Colton Purvis to the Economic Development Council, and approved Pam Ellis as an advisor;
  • approved $50,000 to extend a road to accommodate a new business; and
  • approved the hire of a public works employee.
