Council mulls changes to EDC makeup

SHEPHERD — The Shepherd City Council discussed changes to its Economic Development committee, including adding an additional director.

City Secretary Debra Hagler sad that at the Dec. 8 meeting, the board of aldermen discuss an idea of creating a co-director position; Lauren Migl, the current director, told the council she is looking for help with analysis and behind the scenes functions.

The council took no action, since the EDC board will have to give its blessing prior to council approval.

In other business, council members:

  • discussed a duplex housing project on Myrtie Drive. Hagler said a family has property and is looking to put in 12 homes for 24 units to be for rent;
  • discuss a request from Rick Daniel to purchase the alley on his property on Railroad Avenue, to be used for Equipment Storage. While the council expressed no opposition, more paperwork was needed;
  • approved a variance for Jackie Cullum to place a 2021 double-wide trailer next to her father’s home at 130 S. Hill Ave.; and
  • allocated all votes on the San Jacinto County Appraisal District’s Board of Directors ballot to Michael Courvelle.
