POINT BLANK — The need for repairs on city streets is constant, so the Point Blank City Council has opted to experiment with different methods in hopes of improving the quality and durability of stree repairs.
Mark Wood, the former mayor handling grants and FEMA work for the city, said that at the Sept. 8 meeting, street repairs was the biggest discussion, particularly on changing the process used in fixing roads.
He said that traditionally crews simply resurface everything after it falls apart, but that happens to be the most expensive route.
“In thinking about different methods of repair, council decided to test different products and then come up with recommendations based on the scope of the problem,” Wood said. “Then with training, municipalities can move to a preventative posture instead of a reactive.”
Wood said it may take a year to get enough data, but the goal is to find the least expensive solution to specific problems. Those methods then will be shared with the county road crews.
