County alters park plans to save funds

COLDSPRING — The San Jacinto County Commissioners Court approved several design changes on park project to help alleviate costs.

At the Wednesday meeting, a review of the plans submitted by an engineering firm was submitted, and recommendations were made to make the construction of a restroom facility cheaper, including removal of privacy screens for cinder block walls and moving the building to make the sewer and water lines shorter. Another recommendation was to install a conventional septic system.

Changing the roofing material and insulation also was recommended, as well as removing water heaters and hand dryers.

In other business, commissioners:

  • approved extending the burn ban for 30 days;
  • approved seeking bids for recycled road material;
  • renewed the County Choice Silver Retiree Insurance plan, and will allow anyone signing up to choose any relevant options;
  • renewed worker’s compensation insurance for the new fiscal year;
  • approved changing a full-time position at the Animal Control Center to two part-time, with Commissioner Mark Nettuno voting against it; and
  • accepted a donation of $450 to the Sheriff’s Office for community outreach.
