County approves memorial for fallen officer

COLDSPRING — The San Jacinto County Commissioners Court approved a request from the Texas Department of Public Safety for a memorial to be erected for a local fallen officer.

At the Sept. 30 meeting, County Judge Fritz Faulkner said he was contacted by DPS about a monument for Trooper Jerry Adamick Jr.

Adamick died on his way to assist other law enforcement officers on Sept. 15, 2025, when his vehicle went off the side of the road, struck a tree and caught fire.

Troopers told Faulkner that one had been created, and they would like to install it sometime in 2027 somewhere on the Courthouse Square.

Chief Deputy Sheriff Stan Jolly said the DPS preferred the Courthouse Square as opposed to an already existing county memorial.

While the measure was approved, Faulkner said that he impressed upon the troopers that it needed to be secured because in the past children have climbed other monuments and toppled them, causing injury.

In other business, the county:

  • discussed assisting residents in the area of Trails End with road repairs, but took no action as the roads are private. Commissioners advised the residents to pursue creation of an HOA;
  • approved a contract for countywide IT needs and Microsoft cloud services;
  • declared older computer equipment as salvage to be thrown away;
  • approved placing a purple ribbon outside of the Courthouse in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month;
  • approved a proclamation to increase awareness for Head Start;
  • approved renewal of the county’s worker’s compensation;
  • approved the final plat for section one of the Deer Hollow subdivision;
  • discussed seeking qualifications for a consultant to review county options regarding proposed solar farms;
  • tabled items regarding new high-impact use and public utility policies; and
  • approved spending $7,500 in increase water service to the proposed Memorial Park.
