County looks at Forest Service windfall

COLDSPRING — San Jacinto County could receive up to $106,000 from the Texas Forest Service for its road use agreement.

At the Wednesday County Commissioners Court meeting, the court learned that based on a Good Neighbor Authority agreement the county entered into in with Texas A&M Forest Service, the county could be reimbursed for materials used to repair roads the Forest Service uses.

All the county needs to do is send an invoice, and once verified, the funds will be sent to the county.

The agreement runs from 2023-28, and will be tallied retroactively.

In other business, the court:

  • approved a request to combine lots in Waterwood Augusta Estates;
  • discussed the county’s current health insurance;
  • accepted a report on delinquent tax collection;
  • approved a road and bridge refund;
  • approved a supplemental benefits package option and appointed Higginbotham Public Sector as agent of record;
  • approved the purchase of a Kubota cab tractor with a front-end loader at a cost of $75,517.30;
  • approved the donation of a plot of land to the county as part of a replace of property owned by Clinton and Curtis Wilson;
  • declared a Land Pride rotary tiller as surplus to be offered for sale;
  • approved the use of Genesis E-Bonds for the county’s bonding needs;
  • approved a contract with Trident Care for inmate medical needs; and
  • approved a contract with Texas SAVNS for a victim notification program.
