County OKs new vehicle, tasers

COLDSPRING — The San Jacinto County Commissioners Court approved a host of items for the Sheriff’s Office, replacing a vehicle and purchasing new equipment.

At the Wednesday meeting, the court approved a new lease for a Ford Explorer at $675 per month to replace a 2023 Chevrolet that was totaled in an accident after a driver failed to yield at a stop sign.

The court discussed the disposition of the wrecked vehicle but said it will be taken up at a later date.

In a separate matter, commissioners approved the purchase of five Axon tasers at a cost of $22,857 and five new laptops at a cost of $11,406.

Additionally, the court approved a memorandum of understanding for use of the Automated Fingerprint Identification System database fingerprinting system.

In other business, the commissioners:

  • approved an agreement with the Department of Public Safety for office space;
  • cast votes equally for Sky Spivey and Michael Courvelle for service on the San Jacinto County Appraisal District Board;
  • approved acceptance of bids for a PB&SC well project;
  • declared computer equipment as salvage to be destroyed;
  • approved the purchase of a used Chevrolet 3500 flatbead;
  • approved the change of the procurement limit from $50,000 to $100,000;
  • approved the final plat for the Whitetail Ranch subdivision;
