County VFDs win grant funds

The Texas A&M Forest Service awarded the third round of equipment grants for Fiscal Year 2026 on Feb. 13.

Approximately $14 million in grants were awarded to Texas volunteer fire departments.

All departments awarded a grant in this round have received official written notice of approval. Approvals were emailed to each department with application status updated in FireConnect. Follow-up notifications will be mailed to non-responding departments on March 9.

Rolling awards will continue over the coming months to fund apparatus and equipment.

San Jacinto County departments receiving those awards include:

  • 980 North Volunteer Fire Department Personal Protective Equipment $25,000
  • Bear Creek Volunteer Fire Department Inc., Training Aids $10,000
  • Camilla Twin Harbor Volunteer Fire Department Inc., Personal Protective Equipment $25,000, Training Aids $10,000
  • Cape Area Volunteer Fire Department, Personal Protective Equipment $25,000, Training Aids $10,000
  • Coldspring Volunteer Fire Department, Training Aids $10,000
  • Oakhurst Volunteer Fire Department, Personal Protective Equipment $25,000, Training Aids $10,000
  • Punkin-Evergreen Volunteer Fire Department, Training Aids $10,000
