COLDSPRING — Community spirit took center stage during the July 22 meeting of the San Jacinto County Commissioners Court as county officials recognized the volunteers whose hard work helped make the Point Blank Fourth of July celebration a success.
Before beginning the court's regular business, County Judge Fritz Faulkner congratulated the Coldspring Boys Little League team on its impressive postseason run. The team advanced deep into the Little League playoffs, bringing pride to San Jacinto County and earning recognition from the Commissioners Court.
One of the highlights of the meeting came when Karen and Ken Black spoke about the community's 250th Anniversary Fourth of July Celebration held in Point Blank. The event drew residents together to celebrate Independence Day and the nation's upcoming semiquincentennial in 2026.
During the presentation, Karen Black recognized Mark Nettuno, Commissioner for Precinct 4, with a special award presented on behalf of U.S. Rep. Morgan Luttrell in appreciation of his support and efforts in helping make the celebration a success.
The Commissioners Court then returned to county business.
Among the actions taken, Donny Marrs was unanimously appointed to represent San Jacinto County on the Brazos Transit District Board of Directors, receiving approval without objection.
Commissioners also approved a request to divide a 10-acre tract of land into two five-acre parcels.
The court approved several additional agenda items without discussion, while four items were tabled or received no action before the meeting concluded.
Although much of the morning focused on routine county business, the recognition of local volunteers and the celebration of the community's successful Independence Day festivities served as a reminder of the dedication and civic pride shared throughout San Jacinto County.
