Court urged to exercise its authority in fire department issue

COLDSPRING — The San Jacinto County Commissioners Court was urged to step in to resolve a disagreement between the county Emergency Services District and the Coldspring Volunteer Fire Department.

During public forum at the court’s regular meeting on Wednesday, Gerald Deeter told commissioners they have a responsibility for the betterment of the county, and that gives them the opportunity to make changes to the ESD board.

“There’s no diplomacy on someone’s part,” Deeter said. “I would like for you to bring in every member of the different departments and ask them what their satisfaction level is with the ESD. It’s your responsibility.”

He said the ESD has no plan and it’s not being run as a professional organization.

“You need to take the necessary steps to get this resolved,” Deeter said. “There’s no need for us as residents to be in turmoil over this nonsense.”

In other business, the commissioners:

  • reappointed Faulkner to serve on the Burke Board;
  • approved payment for the Genasys emergency notification system though the county’s emergency management funds;
  • declared a 2008 Ford F-150 as surplus and to be sold at auction;
  • approved a variance for a lot split in the Abbey Survey for Clarence Green;
  • approved creation of a committee to discuss technical issues regarding the county’s subdivision regulations;
  • awarded a bid of $959,386.50 from Smith Construction for work on the Lee Turner Road project; and
  • approved an agreement with the Texas Gang Intelligence Index.
