The Shepherd Lady Pirates traveled up Highway 150 Monday night for a tough non-district matchup against the New Waverly Lady Bulldogs. The Pirates knew they had a battle ahead; New Waverly had just finished second in the Shepherd Turkey Shootout the week prior and entered the game riding high.
The Lady Pirates fought with grit but spent much of the night digging out of an early deficit. Shepherd surged in the fourth quarter, outscoring New Waverly 12-3 in the final minutes, but the comeback fell just short as the Bulldogs held on for a 36-31 win.
Dakiyah Clark led Shepherd’s offense with 9 points, including two three-pointers, and went 3-for-8 from the free-throw line. Jazz Richardson followed with 6 points, while both Aliyah Thomas and Kiona King added 5 points apiece. Shepherd finished the night with 11 team fouls, giving New Waverly several key trips to the line that helped shape the final margin.
Offensively, the Lady Pirates posted quarter scores of 9, 2, 8, and 12. The second quarter proved costly, as Shepherd managed only two points while New Waverly capitalized with timely baskets and a strong push from behind the arc. Lady Bulldog standout Londyn Marshall was difficult to contain, dropping four deep three-pointers and swinging the momentum firmly in New Waverly’s favor.
On Nov. 24, the Lady Trojans lost to Hargrave 46-34.
