SHEPHERD — The Shepherd IDS Board of Managers OK’d a push to upgrade the heating and cooling systems in the district.
Superintendent Dr. Jason Hewitt said that at the Thursday meeting the board approved a plan to redesign and replace the systems — about 11 of them, which are on their last legs.
Those units are older freon units, the coolant has been banned, and they are expensive to repair, he said.
It will cost about $865,000, which the district will pay for out of its fund balance. Work will begin in summer.
In other business, the board:
- approved contract renewal for all administrators, including a two-year extension for Director of Teaching and Learning Tammie Hewitt;
- approved applying for a low-attendance waiver for an event that happened in early February, as students did not attend school for immigration protests;
- approved staff pay for time during Winter Storm Enzo;
- approved budget amendments;
- approved changes to the compensation plan adjusting contractual days; and
- approved the 2025-26 academic calendar.
