Early voting for first May election starting

Posted

Two school districts have elections scheduled for May 2, and early voting kicks off Monday.

Coldspring-Oakhurst CISD is again putting a bond issue before the voters.

According to the district, the proposed $50 million bond focuses on improving student learning environments, enhancing school safety, and addressing facility needs across the district — including a new Coldspring Intermediate campus, renovations at Lincoln Junior High, additions at James Street Elementary, six new school buses, and district-wide upgrades.

The district had a similar bond issue before voters in the November 2025 general election, but that failed.

Additionally, three school board trustee positions are up for election.

Position 7 incumbent and current board vice president, M.J. Coker, is running unopposed.

In the race for Position 5, Daniel Williams and Keith Pinkston are seeking the open seat; and in the race for Position 6, T.J. Strickland is facing incumbent and current board secretary Dale Richards

  • In the Cleveland School District, a portion of which is in San Jacinto County, two trustee positions are up for election.

For Position 6, incumbent and current board secretary Deborah “Wendy” McNair is facing Aaron Montesnieto; and for Position 7, incumbent Marvin Searles Sr. is facing Dixie Marshall.
