COLDSPRING — Point Blank City Council members, and ultimately County Judge Fritz Faulkner, used the public forum at the Feb. 17 meeting of the San Jacinto County Commissioners Court to show appreciation for Mark Wood, Point Blank mayor emeritus and county engineer.

Council Member Gary Wulf said Wood has brought much-needed discipline and professional business processes to the positions he is in, and through his efforts, has secured more than $1 million in grants for road repair, not only handling the paperwork but going out into the field to make sure job is done right.

Wulf said Wood handles all of this, and all of the complaints, and does it without compensation, and that the council appreciates his long hours, expertise and continued service.

Faulkner echoed the sentiment, saying that on behalf of the county, they appreciate what he has done.

In a separate matter, the commissioners approved the use of LGS Solutions to pull jury panels.

Faulkner said that in the past, drawing names for jury panels was expensive and had some problems, which has caused some trials to be canceled.

The cost of the system is a one-time fee of $1,000 and then $120 per month.

In other business, the court:

  • approved the refund of a payment for a permit that was taken in error;
  • tabled a discussion about upgrading communications to a VHF radio system;
  • approved a memorandum of understanding between the city of Coldspring and the Sheriff’s Office regarding animal control;
  • approved a memorandum of understanding between the Coldspring-Oakhurst CISD Police Department and the Sheriff’s Office;
  • approved acceptance of a donation of $8,400 for road improvement on Emerald Way;
  • approved renewal of agreement for reporting program for Affordable Care Act tracking services;
  • gave annual approval of the county’s investment policy and appointed DiAnna Bailey as investment officer; and
  • approved acceptance of a donation of $200 from McCoppin family for park and one of $1,200 for flooring from Eric van Gilden.
