Excitement building toward the next holiday celebration

It’s last call for vendors for Shepherd Christmas event on Saturday.

We have a lot of interesting and different vendors as well as the line dancers The Hot Steppers who will perform after the welcome speech from Mayor Charles Minton at 1 p.m. The Community Center will be open from 10 a.m. for vendors setting up and selling. Our DJ will keep the music coming and hot food will be outside the center. Face Painter Faith and kids games will be there too so be sure to come out and see what is going on.

The parade may line up from 4 p.m. onward so the judges can have plenty of time to look at everyone’s float or vehicle. The parade will move off at 6 p.m. As usual, it will line up beside the City Hall and Library. Forms for the Parade are online and also may be picked up at Shepherd Library or City Hall. You cannot be judged without an entry form.

Coldspring has “Christmas on the Square” on Dec. 14.

• The SJC Christmas Concert will be held at the Community Shelter on Dec. 21 at 4:30 p.m. Sponsored by Coldspring Methodist Church, singers from six area churches will combine talents which will include sing-alongs. There will be a Children’s Presentation by SFLC, a Choir Cantata and refreshments. Best of all this is a free event which has become so popular it is moving to the larger venue.

• Shepherd Council held a special meeting on Nov. 19 to canvas the votes for the election of aldermen. William LaCoste, owner of Texas Grill & Cafe, came in first and Mayor Charles Minton was unopposed. I was re-elected for another term. Thank you all who voted, this is one of the most important things we can do for our community as well as for our country.

• Coldspring Garden Club will hold its Christmas Party on Dec. 13 at the Senior Center. Members will receive emails to remind them, please bring a gift for the White Elephant exchange and pay no more than $5 for it. The Resale Shop is recommended for purchasing this, so let us support this exceptional source of gifts. Remember to call and reserve your place at the Center before the day.

• SAAFE House, a member of Coldspring Chamber, is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping victims of violence and abuse. They have an office in the Chamber building and served 1,268 clients this year. Call (936) 284-5560. Coldspring Chamber has a new website, look for it on Facebook.

• Congratulations to Dwayne Wright, Chair for the local Republican Party. Incoming State Rep. Janis Holt, House District 18, has appointed him as her Chief of Staff in Austin.

• Coldspring Library received 500-plus new books through a grant from Texas Book Festival. They worked hard to organize the library to accommodate all of them so please look in and see how wonderful is looks.

• Shepherd Family Restaurant & Daiquiri to Go will serve a free Christmas Dinner at 11 a.m. on Christmas Day. The menu is in the process of having items added so this looks to be a very special meal.

• Shepherd Chamber presented Linda Bridges, our long-time secretary, with flowers on her resignation from the Board. Linda will still be a member and will be one of the judges for our Parade.
