COLDSPRING — While the final tally isn’t in yet, the San Jacinto County Fair & Rodeo Livestock Auction looks to have brought in upwards of $750,000, including a hefty $20,500 for the grand champion replacement heifer.

Fair Board President Tommy Hues put out a litany of greats on Saturday — great participation, as there were 172 animal entries; great animals; great livestock shows; and a lot of great volunteers that come out year after year to work for the kids.

“They do this behind the scenes; they’re unseen,” he said.

Another great annual event included, for the second year, was the Special Hearts event, where the 4-H and FFA students help out special-needs kids.

Hues also said that the sponsors also were a great bunch of people and organizations, and this year, Coldspring-Oakhurst CISD provided parking and a shuttle service to handle the overflow.

The sale was great as well, and Hues said the community always comes together to help the kids.
