Falcons dominate, but Shepherd Pirates show true grit

SHEPHERD — Despite a relentless effort from the Shepherd Pirates, the Hargrave Falcons controlled the game from start to finish, securing a dominant 92-46 victory on Friday.

The Pirates struggled to keep pace, trailing 54-16 at halftime, but they never lost their fighting spirit, and Hargrave’s deep bench allowed the Falcons to maintain fresh legs throughout the game, giving them a clear advantage.

A bright spot for Shepherd was the outstanding performance of big man Brayden White, who put on an offensive showcase. White poured in 33 points, including 5 three-pointers, 7 two-point field goals, and an impressive 5-for-6 performance at the free-throw line. At one point, he knocked down three consecutive three-pointers, forcing Hargrave into a timeout to adjust their defense.

On Jan. 28, the Pirates lost to Liberty 72-40.

Brayden White put up impressive numbers — 30 points and 11 rebounds, in the game.

Coldspring

The Trojans struggled in last week’s district outings, losing to Anderson-Shiro 47-42 on Jan. 28 and to New Waverly 43-39 on Friday.

Against Anderson, top producers were Bryan Douglas with 8 points and 4 assists, Josh Brimsey with 15 points and 4 assists and Jayden Kelly with 8 points and 12 rebounds

Against New Waverly, top producers were Bryan Douglas with 16 points and 4 assists, Josh Brimsey with 14 points and 2 assists and Jayden Kelly with 7 points and 13 rebounds.

The Hargrave Lady Falcons took control early and never looked back as they secured a 51-28 victory over the Lady Pirates on Friday.

Despite the tough matchup, the Lady Pirates displayed resilience and passion for the game, but a strong start by Hargrave allowed them to dominate the game.

Addison Kowis contributed at the free-throw line, going 1-for-2. Jazilyn Richardson added 6 points to the board and went 1-for-3 from the line. Kiona King chipped in 3 points, while Dakiyah Clark led the team in scoring with 9 points and a perfect 2-for-2 at the free-throw line. Maraya Davis posted 7 points for the night, making 3 of her 5 attempts at the line, and Elizabeth Coyle went 2-for-4 from the stripe.

On Jan. 28, Shepherd lost to Liberty 57-27.

Coldspring

The Lady Trojans split last week’s games, downing Hargrave 50-45 in OT but losing to Anderson-Shiro 41-37.

Head Coach Monique Whitaker said standouts include Ella Phillips, Shantel Goffney and Kelsey Ivory.
