Food distribution to be covered

SHEPHERD — One good turn deserves another, and the Shepherd City Council on Aug. 10 waived permitting fees for an awning planned for First Baptist Church.

City Secretary Debra Hagler said that First Baptist Church of Shepherd is planning to construct an awning for its monthly food truck distribution in order to keep food and customers out of the weather.

Hagler said the council felt the effort is a benefit to community; while agreeing to waive permitting fees, PBC still will have to follow all permitting guidelines, including inspections.

In a separate matter, the council approved and order of election as two council positions as well as the mayor’s post is up for election. The election will be held in November.

In other business, the aldermen:

  • approved moving an easement on Karen Road to the southern property line;
  • approved the annual audits. The city received an unmodified opinion on the full audit; and the single audit performed because of grant funds found the finances in complianc;
  • adopted a personnel policy that updates the disciplinary track to clarify language; and
  • set Aug. 17 at 4 p.m. for a budget workshop.
