Food truck ordinance repealed

SHEPHERD — After hearing from state officials regarding food truck regulations, the Shepherd City Council repealed an ordinance that regulates food trucks.

City Secretary Debra Hagler said that at the regular meeting on June 8, council members reviewed the legislation after being informed that the city is not allowed to require permits because food trucks are under state regulation.

The council did pass an ordinance that matches state legislation on food trucks and mobile vendors that will allow the City the right to ask for certain things like manifest or proof of grease disposal.

Hagler said the city can still regulate location unless the trucks are set up on private properties.

In other business, the council:

  • discussed a request to move a portable building onto property owned by Falyn Chapman at 2470 S. Byrd and connecting it to her home’s electric and water to be used for storage and to cut her family’s hair;
  • discuss the placement of no dumping signs on LJ Charles and Railroad avenues;
  • approved an application from GLS for engineering services to prepare scope of work for a 2024 GLO LCP grant application; the city is seeking a $5 million grant to be used to duplicate the current wastewater facility; and
  • gave annual approval for the 2026 Investment Policy.
