The Coldspring Garden Club enjoyed a trip to the Benestante Vineyard and spacious meeting hall. The latter is available to rent for occasions such as weddings, reunions, etc. It is adjacent to the lovely vineyard where we were able to walk around the rows and see how everything worked.

Dr. Judi Benestante gave the Garden Club a talk on the history of the vineyard and how it has developed over the years. This is a surprise to most people who live in our area, since many had no idea there was a thriving vineyard in the heart of Coldspring.

Mayor John Benestante and his wife celebrate their 55 years of marriage this year and have worked very hard to make their business grow. Judi told everyone how vines have to be treated, how they are gathered and how they go immediately to the winery for processing into wine. Light refreshments were available and everyone had a very enjoyable afternoon.

• Some sad news for clients of Perla’s Polish Me Beautiful: she informed her regular clients last week that she will close down her nail polish service at the end of April.

She will focus on passing the exams for nursing so she can work full-time with Guendy, her business partner, at Willow and Grace Aesthetics. This business held a ribbon cutting recently with Shepherd Chamber of Commerce. It offers botox, weight loss and facial services and a wide range of treatments to make you look and feel wonderful. Go to their Facebook page or call (936) 247-3626. It’s located at 11231 Highway 150 Suite 7 in Shepherd.

• San Jacinto Women’s League will hold the Style Show on Thursday. This will be a chance to see the fashions of Chico of Kingwood modeled by members of the League. Lunch and a silent auction promise great food and interesting bargains.

The Women’s League lost one of its long-time members this last week and we will miss Anne French. Condolences and prayers go to her family and friends.

• Shepherd Library holds “Tiny Tots Tales” every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. This is a delightful hour when the children start off with an exercise dance followed by a story. Last week they met Reginald, or Reggie to his friends, who is an animatronic Tiger and who likes to join in conversations when he feels like it. He lives at our house so I am happy to transport and interpret for him.

He became a Friend of Shepherd Library some months ago. You can see my talk with him encouraging him to become a friend on the Facebook page of The Friends of Shepherd Library. Call the Library at (936) 628-3515.

• Do not forget the Master Gardeners “Petals and Pathways” on April 19 from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. Tickets are on sale at the Senior Center in Coldspring for $10, $12 on the day. Meet at the Coldspring Community Center, tickets have a map to show you the way.
