SAN JACINTO COUNTY — An early Friday traffic stop resulted in a substantial seizure of marijuana and the arrest of an individual on a felony charge.

Sheriff Greg Capers said that just after midnight on Friday, patrol deputies conducted a traffic stop of a commercial vehicle near Lee Turner and Trails End roads.

A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of 283.8 pounds of packaged marijuana, and according to a bill of lading found in the impounded vehicle, the load was being delivered to a location in the northeastern U.S.

Capers said the street value of this drug shipment is $2.2 million, according to the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area drug task force. The 2003 Peterbilt truck and trailer were impounded for further investigation.

John Rodriquez, a 54-year-old male, was taken into custody for felony possession of marijuana. Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Randy Ellisor has set his bond at $600,000, and Rodgriguez is not allowed to leave Texas or the United States, must surrender his passport and he must report in once a month until trial.

Capers said that due to the alert actions of Patrol Lt. R. Nash, Deputy Hughes and Sgt. Saintes, another load of dangerous drugs was intercepted.

“This incident is another example of the large quantity of illegal drugs which flow through San Jacinto County,” he said.

Capers said anyone who has information concerning illegal drugs, human trafficking or criminal offenses can contact the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office at (936) 653-4367 or call Multi-County Crime Stoppers at (800) 392-7867.
