It was a busy week for fundraising

Friends of Shepherd Library, a non-profit formed to help raise money for programs and events at the library, held a Time Warp Trivia Fundraiser in Methodist Fellowship Hall in Coldspring. Created by Vicki and Alli from the Library, it was a success and also a lot of fun. Participants chose an era they liked, dressed the part and of course, questions were centered on eras of last century and costumes of the 70s and 80s were popular.

•Rick and Terri dressed the part for this event and are also the leads in the other fundraiser of the Friends. Rick is President and of course Terri is the Library Administrator. The Board are all volunteers and the weekly Bingo on Sunday at Willis in the Knights of Columbus Hall is a lot of work for them. Call the Library at (936) 628-3515 for more info or go to the Facebook page.

•On Thursday morning at Woodland Park Nursing Home, Dr. Anita Wright and her team of helpers brought an interactive service with music and spiritual messages to the patients. Most were in wheelchairs but enjoyed the hour together. Treats, snacks and fruit were given and Gregg Cones entertained with his singing after the service as well as before. This is a monthly service from the Inspiring Hope Outreach Ministry.

•Both Chambers of Commerce are working hard to make their Christmas events successful. Shepherd will start on Dec. 5 in the Library Park with the Gazebo. All the vendors who came to the Community Market will return then, and those who would like to be a vendor can find the form online at the Shepherd Chamber Facebook and website. You can also pick one up at the Library and return it there or to City Hall. You may also text me with your details. Vendors are $20 and hot food is $50. The Parade will start to line up from 4 p.m. onward and starts moving at 6 p.m. Judging starts as line up begins. Text me at the number below for more info.

Last Thursday, Shepherd Chamber held a ribbon cutting for Massey's Home Grown Quality Plants at 1502 Shraderville Road in Shepherd. Bubba Massey, his wife and Mom and his family have created a wonderful place with beautiful plants, flowers, trees and bushes. He says they will start vegetables in the spring.

Their hard work has paid off with an expanded area of fruit trees and bushes. Call them at (479) 790-8017 or Jonell Massey at (281) 924-9069. They have been given Business of the Month for November.

Contact the Shepherd Chamber of Commerce at (210) 995-7420 or the Coldspring Chamber at (936) 653-2184.

Yvonne Cones is president of the Shepherd Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Coldspring Chamber of Commerce.
