Lady Trojans cruise past Trinity in run-rule victory

The Coldspring Lady Trojans wasted no time taking control over Trinity on April 7, rolling to a dominant 20-2 win that ended early due to the run rule after four innings.

From the first pitch, Coldspring’s offense was unstoppable. The Lady Trojans opened the game with a five-run first inning, sparked by a series of well-placed singles, including an RBI knock from Jasper Williams to get things started.

The second inning saw the floodgates open, as Coldspring erupted for eight runs. Taonna McGraw delivered the biggest blow with a three-run single, while Abby Murphy added an RBI hit.

The Lady Trojans also showed patience at the plate, drawing multiple hit-by-pitches with the bases loaded to keep the runs coming. They continued the offensive onslaught in the third inning, adding six more runs behind timely hits from Krissie Bennett and Ciara Phillips, along with productive outs and disciplined at-bats throughout the lineup.

In the circle, freshman Cassidy Loll was sharp, earning the win after allowing just three hits and two runs over 2⅔ innings while striking out four. She set the tone early and kept Trinity off balance all game long. Coldspring piled up 15 hits in the contest, with McGraw and Murphy leading the way with three hits each.

Phillips, McGraw, and Bennett each drove in three runs, highlighting the depth of the Lady Trojans’ lineup. The team also displayed excellent discipline, drawing 12 walks, with Olivia Lee and Addison Headley each earning three free passes.

Aggressive baserunning added to the pressure, as Coldspring swiped four bases in the game.

On Friday, Coldspring put on an offensive showcase, powering past Trinity 15-4 behind a huge night from Abby Murphy. Murphy led the charge with five RBIs on three hits, including a thrilling inside-the-park home run in the fourth inning that brought the crowd to its feet. She also added a two-run single earlier in the game, continuing her standout performance at the plate.

After Trinity struck first in the opening inning, Coldspring responded immediately. The Lady Trojans took control in the bottom of the first, highlighted by a two-run double from Camry Barton and an RBI single from Taonna McGraw. Coldspring kept the pressure on and broke the game wide open in the fourth inning, erupting for eight runs. Barton tripled to drive in three, Murphy delivered her inside-the-park home run, and Krissie Bennett added an RBI double as part of the explosive frame.

In the circle, Cassidy Loll earned the win with a solid outing, allowing five hits and four runs (three earned) over 4⅔ innings while not issuing a single walk. The Lady Trojans finished with 13 hits, with Barton and Murphy each driving in five runs. McGraw and Jasper Williams added multiple hits, while the team showed discipline with nine walks.

Defensively, Coldspring added a highlight with a key double play to round out a complete performance.

Shepherd

In a tightly contested matchup, the Shepherd Lady Pirates were locked in a pitching duel but fell just short in a 2-1 loss to Hampshire-Fannett on April 7. Both teams showcased outstanding performances in the circle, but a few timely hits made the difference.

Isabelle Hooper turned in a remarkable outing for Shepherd, recording 20 outs while striking out an impressive 14 batters. She allowed just seven hits and two runs over 6⅔ innings, walking only one.

Hampshire struck first in the third inning with an RBI single from Brooke Mayer. Shepherd answered in the fourth, as Jayci Wilson delivered an RBI single down the left field line to tie the game at 1-1. From there, it remained a battle of pitchers, with both defenses holding strong.

However, Hampshire managed to edge ahead and hold on for the narrow victory.

At the plate, Wilson led Shepherd with the team’s lone RBI, while Rylei Brewer and Skyleigh Lagow each added a hit.

On Thursday, Shepherd ran into a strong Liberty squad, falling 12-0 in district play.

Liberty struck early, using a triple from Kylee Bishop in the second inning to get on the board and build momentum. From there, the Lady Panthers steadily pulled away behind consistent hitting and disciplined at-bats.

Despite the scoreline, Isabelle Hooper delivered an impressive performance in the circle for Shepherd. She went the distance, striking out 12 batters while allowing just three earned runs, continuing to show her strength against a powerful lineup.

Offensively, Shepherd saw hits from Rylei Brewer and Skyleigh Lagow, who continue to provide consistency in the lineup.
