Lady Trojans rally to take 3-of-4 from Centerville

COLDSPRING — The Lady Trojans hosted Centerville Friday, and while the Lady Trojans entered the night looking to work on several areas of their game, they also had something else in mind: winning the volleyball match.

Coldspring came out swinging in the opening set, rolling to a convincing 25-10 victory. The 2A Lady Tigers came out with renewed energy in the second set, putting together several early points and forcing Coldspring to play from behind. The Lady Trojans struggled to regain their composure and were unable to make the run they needed, dropping the second set 14-25.

For Head Coach Krista Jones, the second set became an important lesson, and an opportunity for her team to respond.

“We started strong by winning the first set but lost our composure in the second set and lost it,” she said. “We managed to regroup and make a few adjustments and were able to come back strong in the third and fourth set and win the game.”

Coldspring returned to the court in the third set looking more settled and focused. The Lady Trojans regained control and took the set 25-18, putting themselves one set away from closing out the match. The fourth set belonged to Coldspring.

The Lady Trojans finished the night strong, winning the final set 25-11 and securing the match victory.

Jones and her team were able to identify areas that needed attention, make adjustments, and most importantly, see how her players would respond when the momentum suddenly shifted.

On Sept. 8, Coldspring played away at Normangee and lost in three sets.

Jones said the standout for that match was Kerri Delaney, who had several assists (13) and played defense very well.
