COLDSPRING — The Coldspring Lady Trojans returned to the hardwood Friday night, hosting the Splendora Lady Wildcats in a non-district matchup that showcased toughness, hustle, and early-season growth. While Splendora, a much larger 4A program, left with the 55-41 win, the Lady Trojans proved they can battle with anyone, regardless of classification.
From the opening tip, Coldspring refused to back down. The Trojans put up quarter totals of 10, 11, 8 and 12, matching Splendora’s intensity and never allowing the game to get away from them. Splendora’s strong second quarter gave them separation, but the Lady Trojans answered with grit, steady defense, and a full four quarters of effort.
A’Layla Goffney led the way with 14 points, including two deep 3-pointers that electrified the home crowd. Akiah Harwig followed with 10 points, while Traniyah Harrison and Jazly Major added 5 each. Coldspring knocked down 22 two-point field goals and continued to attack the basket throughout the night.
At the free-throw line, the Lady Trojans finished 13 of 32, with Traniyah Harrison (3-of-4) and Alyxandria Cooper (3-of-6) turning in strong performances at the stripe. Despite facing a larger, more experienced opponent, the Trojans committed just 20 fouls, keeping Splendora off the free-throw line and preventing the Wildcats from padding their lead with easy points.
Though still adjusting to a new coaching staff, new expectations, and a new playbook, one thing already defines this team: their hustle is unmatched. Every loose ball, every rebound, every defensive stand came with Trojan energy, proving that this squad has the heart, and the potential, to be dangerous once district play arrives.
